In honor of the release of the movie version of Divergent by Veronica Roth, we watched the trailer, talked about the book, and took online quizzes to see which faction we should be in. It's a good thing that we are all different and all divergent.
After watching a video explaining the Project for Awesome (P4A), we watched an example of a powerful video and made a list of elements that made it so effective. We also came up with a list of possible issues or charities we'd like to support, then formed teams and began the planning process. A lot goes into making a good video: an outline, researching the issue, researching the organization, a script, real on location footage, recording narrative video and audio, and editing clips together. This process will take weeks, so it is good we started so early.
During the first meeting of the year we learned what nerdfighters are and what they do. See /about-us.html for the official About Us. Then we broke into groups so some people could make introduction videos ("my name is ____ and I get nerdy about ____") and others could make duct tape bow ties. Then we swapped. |
