In the spirit of No Shave November, a publicity campaign to raise awareness for men's cancer, the nerdfighters competed in a fake mustache and beard contest. Prizes were awarded in four categories: most realistic, most creative, funniest, and old fashioned.

JFunke went to the national conference of the American Association of School Librarians over the weekend. It was full of nerds! And she met one of her favorite authors, Libba Bray, who wrote Beauty Queens, A Great and Terrible Beauty, and The Diviners. Bray is friends with John Green, one of the founding Nerdfighters, and they bond over writing for young adults and being nerdy. Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, No-Shave November is a unique way to raise cancer awareness. What better way to grow awareness than with some hair? October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so it only makes sense that November is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. To raise awareness (and have some fun) we will host a fake mustache and beard contest on November 20. See some of last year's contestants below.
